According to the most recent census, the net worth of most Americans is on the rise. Specifically,

• The median net worth increased from 1998 to 2000, from $49,932 tro $55,000
• Marriage can be a good financial move, as married-couple households reported the highest reported the highest median net worth ($91,218). In comparison, male householders reported significatly lower net worth ($24,659) and female householders reported even lower net worth ($23,038)
